SOME BASIC FACTS:

The Grand List year runs from October 1st to September 30th.

Vehicles are assessed according to the vehicle owned as of October 1st.

Tax bills are issued on the July 1st following the October 1st assessment date.

The tax bill issued on July 1st is, in effect, issued 9 months into the Grand List year. In other words, taxpayers are actually paying in arrears.

The Assessor's Office prices motor vehicles using the NADA price guides and other sources of vehicle information.

All motor vehicles are taxable including unregistered cars, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, ATV's, snowmobiles. Vehicles with out-of-state registrations are also taxable if the owner is a resident of Southington.
