Building Department

The primary function of the Building Department is to ensure the health, safety and welfare of those who live, work or visit our Town by adhering to the State of Connecticut Building Codes, State Statutes and local Town ordinances. This is accomplished by reviewing applications for permits, reviewing construction plans, conducting inspections, issuing Certificates of Occupancy or Certificates of Approval, issuing necessary orders or notices to remove illegal or unsafe conditions and requiring the necessary safeguards during construction and demolition of structures.

PERMITS:  Permits are done using the online system CITY SQUARED.  If you have not used City Squared previously, you will need to register in order to complete an online application.  The registration option is found in the upper right-hand corner of the City Squared home page.  When completing the online application, please be sure to provide a detailed description of work and upload all required documents in Step 5.


PROPERTY SEARCHES:  
We are pleased to announce that you can now view most property permit history using the online system CITY SQUARED. Use the "Property Lookup" found in the upper right hand corner of the screen and type the street number and street name, exclude the suffix (example: 123 Main).  If you are unable to locate a property, please contact the Assessor's Department for address verification at (860) 276-6205. Please note that we are in a continual process of updating the more historical documents. If additional records are needed or clarification on open permits are required, please complete the request form located in "Building Department Documents" and email, mail or drop off at our office.  The requests are completed in date order.
